The base of her mutation lies in heightened empathy, an almost unbearable sensitivity to the emotions of those around, this ability also allows her to see "emotional echoes". Spectral figures stuck within loops of highly emotional events. They are are a constant companion, though individual echoes do fade over time, she never has a moment's relief from the ghosts of other’s memories. If she concentrates on a specific echo, she is able to pull it into focus–allowing it to become almost solid, the others fading until she’s interrupted.When making physical contact with another, her emotions can shared. Though it usually takes concentration, it can occur quite naturally in situations where she feels particularly strongly.

BACKSTORY

Charlotte Celeste Maple, the younger sister of a memory, second child born to parents who were told 'children would be impossible'—and a mutant haunted by 'emotional echoes'. Harrison was the first to notice that his daughters were different—he studied this sort of thing, after all. He noticed the way the animals seemed to cling to Claire, the way they seemed to hang onto every word as she chattered nonsensically on about her baby sister.The pair were inseparable—even before Charlotte could walk. Claire always seemed to know just what the newborn needed before Charlotte could fuss. . . Yet Charlotte still has trouble recalling any details about her sister, as Claire went missing shortly before Charlotte's third birthday. But Charlotte is determined to find the girl in those faded photographs—she knows she's still out there. Somewhere.Charlotte's ability was harder to place. Grieving parents struggled with a child who seemed to mirror their every emotion. Harrison finally connected the dots when Charlotte began to speak of ghosts. They had lost too much and remained too kind.Fresh out of high school, Charlotte followed lead after lead in her sister's case. Some fruitful—Some nearly getting her killed. In her travels, Charlotte came across another mutant—Marigold Finch— a woman who could transmute anything she touched into gold. The pair hit it off instantly, agreeing to travel together until New York—from there, they intended to go their separate ways. . .This plan didn't last.They both fell in love with the city immediately—only growing more excited when they learned that they weren't the only mutants in the state. Mari's ability easily securing them an apartment near Xavier’s school. Pieces fell into place and Charlotte and Marigold eventually earned a loose affiliation with the X-Men.
